It’s time for a new and unique voice to help all Nebraskans be heard.
Issues
Support Access to Rural Health Care
In rural Nebraska, distance and cost too often stand between people and the care they need. No one should have to choose between medical care, prescriptions and groceries. I’ll work to expand access to critical and emergency care, support rural hospitals, and lower healthcare costs so every Nebraskan can live with dignity and security.
Strengthen Our Rural Communities
Strong workers build a strong Nebraska. By cutting red tape and eliminating burdensome regulations, we can help small businesses grow. And by partnering with schools and businesses, I’ll expand workforce programs that raise wages, end shortages, and prepare Nebraskans for the jobs of tomorrow.
Respect the Voice of the People
When Nebraskans speak through the ballot box, their voices must be respected. Too often, voter-approved initiatives on issues like paid sick leave, the minimum wage, medical cannabis, and rejecting school vouchers have been dismissed or undermined. I vow to ensure that when ballot initiatives are passed, the will of the people is enforced—not ignored.
Support Strong Local Schools
Every child deserves a great education, and strong schools mean a strong Nebraska. I’ll fight to fully fund our schools, support our teachers, and keep politics out of the classroom—so educators can focus on teaching and every Nebraska student is prepared to thrive.
Support Property Tax Relief
Rural Nebraska is being hit hard by skyrocketing property taxes. Seniors, farmers, and small business owners are struggling to keep what they’ve built. As your representative, I’ll bring practical, bipartisan solutions that protect landowners and strengthen rural communities by restoring fairness to our tax system.
Born and raised in rural Nebraska, Melanie Knight is a wife, mother, advocate, and longtime volunteer with deep roots in her community.
Melanie attended the University of Nebraska at Omaha, where she pursued a degree in elementary education with an emphasis in early childhood and special education. Her commitment to service has taken many forms—helping establish a village library, promoting and performing in community theater productions, and mentoring young people through the Teammates Program. Across these efforts, Melanie has been a consistent champion for literacy, early childhood education, disability rights, and the arts, driven by a lifelong belief in building a stronger Nebraska for everyone.
In recent years, Melanie’s perspective has deepened through lived experience. As the parent of an adult child with a disability and the primary caregiver for both of her elderly parents, she has seen firsthand how easily families can be overlooked by systems meant to serve them. Combined with her growing engagement in state and local government, these experiences have made one reality clear: far too many Nebraskans struggle to be heard.
It’s time for a new and authentic voice—one grounded in service, experience, and compassion—to ensure that all Nebraskans have a seat at the table.
